Verizon Wireless wants to be the first mobile carrier to test the next big thing, 5G service.
According to a company news release, Verizon will offer 5G network service to customers in 11 markets in the first half of 2017:
Ann Arbor, Michigan
Bernardsville, New Jersey
Even though it will be a “pre-commercial” test, the wireless network is hoping to expand across several markets.
“(The) 5G technology innovation is rapidly evolving,” said Adam Koeppe, vice president network planning at Verizon. “Network density is increasing to meet the demands of customers, and following the FCC’s aggressive action on 5G spectrum, the time is right to deliver the next generation of broadband services with 5G.”
The expansion puts Verizon slightly ahead of AT&T in the race to provide 5G network service to customers.
