If you’ve ever glanced down at your computer’s keyboard while typing and reached immediately for a bottle of Windex to clean it, then this article is for you.
As it turns out, many of us have been cleaning our computer keyboards and screens incorrectly.
Quick and easy way to clean your computer
While you might think window cleaner and a paper towel do a fine job, those products can actually harm the delicate components of your device.
So power down your computer and let’s get started!
- To clean your keyboard, pour some white vinegar on a microfiber cloth and scrub the keyboard thoroughly.
- Use a cotton swab soaked in vinegar to clean areas that need more attention.
- To clean your screen, take a microfiber cloth and wipe gently in a circular motion.
- Apply a mixture of light water and vinegar if necessary.
According to Dell, the following chemicals or solutions that contain them can cause permanent damage to an LCD monitor, so don’t use them anywhere near your computer!
- Ethyl alcohol
- Ethyl acid
- Methyl chloride
Bottom line: Avoid paper products, don’t use harsh chemicals and never spray product directly on the screen.
