Expecting a tax return this year? Here’s how to get a personalized refund date.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, more than 153 million returns are expected to be filed this year.

“Following months of hard work, we successfully opened our processing systems today to start this year’s tax season,” said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.

The IRS said more than 80 percent of returns will be filed electronically. Choosing e-file and direct deposit remains the fastest and safest way to file an accurate income tax return and receive a refund, according to IRS officials.

If you would like to check the status of your return, you can download the IRS official mobile app, IRS2Go, or visit IRS.gov.

IRS2Go will give you updates as your return goes through the three steps in the refund process:

When your return is received

When your refund is approved

When your refund is sent

The IRS says it’s best to check the status of your refund within 24-hours after receiving an e-filed tax return or 4 weeks after mailing your paperwork.

All tax returns must be filed by April 18, 2017.
