Netflix’s booming video streaming service may force the company’s DVD-by-mail service into extinction.
According to the Associated Press, 159,000 people dumped Netflix’s DVD subscription service between October and December last year, placing subscription at an 11-year low. However, the company’s streaming service has 94 million subscribers.
With numbers like this why does the company keep its DVD subscription service? It told the AP that despite the drop in subscription, the service is still incredibly profitable. The earnings have helped pay for Netflix’s streaming expansion outside the U.S.
