An Everett pistachio company is pulling products off local shelves due to a potential salmonella contamination.
Crescent Specialty Foods, Inc. voluntarily recalled 6-ounce bags of Crescent Pistachio Raw Thursday, The Herald Business Journal reports.
The recall is a result of a random sampling program conducted by a Food and Drug Administration contracted lab.
The cause of the possible contamination is unknown.
The nuts were distributed to retail and online stories in Oregon and Washington.
Consumers can return purchased bags to the locations they were purchased from for a full refund.
The recall is being made at the request of the FDA.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, typically in young children, elderly people or others with weakened immune systems.
