How to use Google Maps overseas with no data usage

By Clark Howard

When you’re traveling outside of the United States, wouldn’t it be nice if you had access to the same great Google maps that you do here in the U.S., but without having to use up your cell data to get to them?

Using data overseas on many plans costs a fortune. But if you plan ahead, you can get them for free.

When you’re on a Wi-Fi connection you should download the Google maps for wherever you’re headed. Once they’re on your phone or device, you can now access them offline, using no data at all. Your device’s GPS will even be able to locate you on these maps, even if you are out of range of cell service. And you have full, complete use of mapping tech just as if your cellular data connection was on.
