A new email scam targeting drivers is hitting inboxes. The email includes a bill that appears to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles. It demands payment for an unsatisfied photo enforcement ticket.
Here’s how to spot the fake notice:
- The senders email address
Emails from government agencies will come from official government email address.
- Pay attention to the hyperlinks
Hover your cursor over the hyperlink and you’ll see if the link is to an official government website
- Pay attention to location
If the location of citation is somewhere other than your home state or city, it’s likely not legit
- DMV will only contact you through your mailing address, not email
*Disclaimer: never click on emails that don’t look familiar.
