A new email scam targeting drivers is hitting inboxes.  The email includes a bill that appears to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles.  It demands payment for an unsatisfied photo enforcement ticket.

Here’s how to spot the fake notice:

  1. The senders email address

Emails from government agencies will come from official government email address.

  1. Pay attention to the hyperlinks

Hover your cursor over the hyperlink and you’ll see if the link is to an official government website

  1. Pay attention to location

If the location of citation is somewhere other than your home state or city, it’s likely not legit

  1. DMV will only contact you through your mailing address, not email
