SEATTLE – The cost to park in Seattle could go up next year.

The Seattle City Council is set to vote on the proposal Monday.

Under the plan, parking rates could jump up to a dollar.

Currently, the Seattle Department of Transportation has the authority to set rates between .75 cents to $4 an hour.

The proposal would bump that to $5 an hour in certain places.

Those who support the plan said the old rates had not changed since 2010, and since then, parking demands and economic activity have gone up.

Reporter Patranya Bohoolsuwan looked into current parking rates and found areas with the highest rates are Capitol Hill, Pioneer Square and the International District, which have rates of $4 and hour during certain hours.
