If you’re someone who pays $119 a year for an Amazon Prime membership and primarily uses it for the two-day shipping, I may have a way to save you some money.

ShopRunner is a service that provides free two-day shipping and free returns to more than 100 retailers.

ShopRunner free 2-day shipping and free returns: What you need to know before you sign up

Never heard of it before? ShopRunner has been around since 2010 and is currently offered as an added benefit to millions of American Express, Mastercard and PayPal members.

If you like to shop online at retailers other than Amazon, this is a program worth signing up for!

Before I get into more details about who’s eligible for a free ShopRunner membership, which normally costs $79 a year, let’s go over some of the basics…

What exactly is ShopRunner?

ShopRunner is a membership program that offers unlimited free two-day shipping, free return shipping and member-only deals at select online retailers.

Where can I shop?

There are more than 100 stores in ShopRunner’s network. This is just a partial list of the retailers that participate in the program:

  • Ann Taylor
  • AutoZone
  • Bloomingdale’s
  • Calvin Klein
  • Eddie Bauer
  • Express
  • Harry & David
  • Kiehl’s
  • Lord & Taylor
  • Lucky Vitamin
  • Oakley
  • Staples
  • The Popcorn Factory
  • Under Armour
  • White House Black Market
  • 1-800-Flowers

Is there a minimum spend amount?

Some ShopRunner retailers do require a minimum purchase amount, usually around $25, for free two-day shipping and free returns. See the full list here.

How do I know what’s eligible?

When shopping through one of the partner sites, look for the ShopRunner logo on the product page to confirm that it’s eligible for free two-day shipping.

4 ways to get a ShopRunner membership for free!

If you shop at any of ShopRunner’s participating retailers (see the full list), you may be interested in signing up for a membership. Forget about the $79 annual fee because there are several ways to get ShopRunner for free!

1. Most American Express credit cards

If you have an American Express credit card in your wallet, you’re likely entitled to a free ShopRunner membership. Most of its credit cards offer it as a complimentary perk.

Here’s how ShopRunner explains the partnership with American Express on its website:

There is no catch. To get your complimentary ShopRunner membership courtesy of American Express, go to www.shoprunner.com/americanexpress and enroll an eligible American Express Card. You never have to pay the $79 fee and you get to enjoy free 2-day shipping on thousands of brands.

2. Some Mastercard credit cards

Don’t have an American Express card? No problem. Anyone who has a valid World Mastercard or World Elite Mastercard is eligible for a free membership. Sign up here.

3. PayPal members

PayPal members can also dodge the $79 a year ShopRunner membership fee. There’s currently a two-year free membership offerfor those who use the online payment system.

4. ShopRunner free trial offer

Finally, ShopRunner is advertising a three-month free trial on its website. I signed up for this offer and didn’t have to enter my credit card information to get started. Enroll at ShopRunner.com.

Amazon Prime vs. ShopRunner

Although ShopRunner partners with more than 100 online retailers, Amazon isn’t one of them. If you want free two-day shipping with Amazon, you’re still going to need a Prime membership.

However, ShopRunner’s service can come in handy for times when you want to shop outside of Amazon.com.

To save some money, why not try to use ShopRunner when you need fast shipping and Amazon as a non-Prime member when slow shipping will do?

Want to use both ShopRunner and Amazon Prime for Black Friday 2018 shopping? I have a solution for that…

Skip Amazon Prime’s annual membership and pay by the month. You can sign up for Prime in mid-November to get free two-day shipping on holiday purchases and then cancel in mid-December.

That way, you’ll only pay $12.99 for one month of Prime, instead of $119 — a total savings of $106!
